We are using two EM9191 5G modems together with an Amarisoft Callbox. Both were working fine. Due to project requirements we need to use band N40 which is listed as supported in the EM9191 technical spec.
AT!BAND=? does not list n40 as supported. I am not sure if that is due to the old firmwares installed on the EM9191s we have.
Does anybody know if newer firmwares enable band n40? I have not found anything in the release notes.
The firmware versions on the two modems are:
SWIX55C_01.04.01.01 and SWIX55C_01.07.08.00
The latest generic version SWIX55C_03.09.06.00 says in the PDF that we need to upgrade to at least SWIX55C_01.07.19.00 first.
Though I am unable to find this intermediate firmware version anywhere on the Sierra Wireless webpage.
Can somebody point me into the right direction to get that intermediate firmware?
To cut a long history lesson short, the 1.x firmware on the EM91 was build with the Qualcomm LE 1.1 baseline, this did not allow us to calibrate some bands on the unit in the factory despite the hardware being capable (as the hardware build has not changed since it was launched). As a result of this units produced with 1.x cannot ever operate on these bands due to the lack of calibration even if they are able to be upgraded to the latest greatest firmware.
This is why the PTS has a note stating d. Band support is firmware and SKU dependent. which is applied to n40 (and the other bands that are affected by it) under table 1-2.
AT!SKU? on both of our EM9191 lists an SKU version of 1104629.
Is there a way to update the SKU to a later version which has the calibration for N40? I searched around and did not really find any info on that part.
Its not a firmware (as all of the 2.x firmware has this band enabled), its an RF procedure that needs to be carried out on an individual unit which can only be done in the factory so unfortunately the answer is no.
