Hello, what is latest available firmware for a revision G EM9190?
I have SWIX55C_00.16.04.00 000000 jenkins 2020/06/02 04:19:42 and have seen that some of the documented AT commands return ERROR. I wonder if there’s a more recent version available.
I don’t have a distributor, I am an independent engineer and got just this one unit I’m testing now.
In addition to many commands not implemented and/or just returning ERROR, I seem to be unable to aggregate more than 1 band (i.e. it only does 2CA), where other modems I have (Quectel EM20, RM500Q) aggregate all the 4 available bands (B1, B3, B7, B20). I really hope this is a firmware issue and I don’t understand why you can’t publish the firmware for the EM9190 like you do for previous models.
So, my unit has 00.16.04.00_Generi_010.003_000 and I have seen around people with what seems way more recent firmware for this modem, e.g. 01.04.01.01_Generi_013.001_000.
Can you please provide me the latest production release (generic)? I just inherited this module for testing and don’t have a reseller I can ask this to. Other vendors like Quectel have no problems helping people with an updated firmware. I am facing CA issues in LTE mode and am not able to evaluate the modem properly in this situation. Thank you.
The units to date have not been on general sale and you must have acquired it through one of our distributors as we have not been handing them out (as they are both expensive and a limited number), it is through this path you need to go.
This came to me from a colleague. I believe that he got this from Emax Group in China. I still do not understand why you can’t just provide the latest firmware for an unit that was regulary bought (this is not a sample). I can provide the IMEI for you to check.
We do not post firmware that is not commercially available (and has hence gone through all of the relevant validation and certification testing, especially on something as new as the EM91) publicly. The unit that you got hold of, I suspect, were one of a few that escaped our control.
You need to go through the Emax group since this was your commercial route.
I understand that you do not post these until fully tested, but you could help by providing that on request with all the usual disclaimers. I work with Quectel also and they did it a number of times already. Anyways this is your decision/policy and I accept it, but sad that I can’t further test the module that I have here just because of that. Regards, Rick Pizzi
I hate to hijack your thread, but I just wanted to offer some sympathy and let you know you are not the only one in this situation. I bought an em7565 about a a year and a half ago fro china through the aliexpress markeyplace. I was trying to write a few simple apps to help me connect and to manage a few other things, but sierrawireless did, and still does not provide the full sdk on source. When I contacted them to try and obtain it they repeatadly told me to go to my distributor even after I explained the situation to them. I was building a custom router with the module and hence do not have a support contract or supply chain relationships. I still have not been able to resolve this and I find this policy absurd. I have been working on computers and building custom devices my whole life and this is the only company i have ever encountered that refuses to provide open support for their devices. I have even contacted chip makers, NVidia, when I need to repair a GPU and they ahppily provided me with a closed source schematic to help. I would also like to note that their statement of not being commercially available conflict with their press statement. See this article dated 20 Aug announcing commercial availability.
And btw, I have found many EM9190 for sale on websites and ebay that i highly doubt are official sellers so I suspect they don’t quite have the “control” over the distribution they think…
Yeah.
Actually is not my problem if I was (legitimally) able to buy an unit that “escaped their control”.
This should be (is!) their fault not mine.
I have a legit unit I bought on a public marketplace and they refuse to provide a working firmware for it.
I am spreading the news across all my peers to steer away from Sierra products even for evaluation purpose.
I recommend Quectel they are very helpful and have no problem helping independent engineers like me.
That’s good to know. I have been looking around at 5g modems to finish updating my setup. I already have a pair of 25db paparbolic dish antennas in Mimo config that go from 700-6000 MHz. It’s been a few days but if I remember the models correctly the rm500 is sub6 and the rm510 is mm, however I couldn’t find the mm module anywhere. They are actually fairly affordable. For my situation I wouldnt really need the mm wave capabilities, I doubt my location will ever have coverage. Have you tested either one?
As far as the support goes honestly as far as I’m concerned if you make a device you should provide support for it no questions asked. I can understand confidential/trade secret stuff but as for the “still in development” angle that’s bull. How many games, devices etc have developers released in poor condition or in beta. The public is used to that and especially those of us who are using these m2 modules are probably more tech proficient anyway. I think they are just one of those companies that doesn’t want to deal with the public. Cisco is kind of that way now too but they will still work with you.
