eSIM Provisioning

Hi,
We are trying to figure out how the process on provisioning a eSIM is working.

Could someone give us a general overview on how to provision the WP76 with eSIM for a carrier?

General questions are also:

  1. Is it possible to configure this for a carrier by ourselfs?
  2. Is it possible to configure multiple carriers?
  3. Is this configuration done with the ADPU?
  4. Where can we get the ADPU packet?
  5. Is the ADPU packet provided by the carrier?

Thanks in advance,
Simon

Hi simon

For 1&2, your module is automatically searches, calculates and chooses the best operator for attachment. You can issue AT+COPS=2 to deregister from the network then AT+COPS=0 to register automatically. The operator sometimes changes.

For 3, nothing is done with ADPU configuration.

For 4, currently, Sierra doesn’t provide a way to get ADPU packets for user.

For 5, I don’t think so. APDU is the communication unit between a smart card reader and a smart card.

Thanks,

Hi jerdung,

This applies to using sierra wireless as a provider, right?

Let’s say we have a contract with t-mobile and one with vodafone.
We want to use the internal eSIM on the module.

How are we setting this up in the eSIM?
I mean this needs to be stored somehow, right? I read about using different profiles, but how can we set this profiles?

Thanks,
Simon

Are there any news on this?

Regards,
Simon

Hi simon.naegele,

The contract is between Sierra and the operators so please don’t mind with it. You can use command AT!UIMS=1 to switch to eSIM.

In case your eSim is not activated, please contact Sierra for the activation.

Thanks,

Hi jerdung,

it seems I haven’t made that clear enough:
We are NOT using sierra wireless as provider.

This is where all the question arise. If sierra wireless would be the provider, then we don’t need to know how to configure this.

But since we are not using sierra wireless as a provider, the questions remain:
How can we configure the eSim with two different profiles?

Thanks,
Simon

Any news on this?

Thanks,
Simon

Hi simon.naegele,

If you want to configure profile into Sierra eSim, I would say that it’s impossible.

eSim in WP76xx is designed for Ready-To-Connect service only.

You can learn more about Ready-To-Connect at the link below:

Thanks,

We would like to know how to install an eSIM profile as well. This seems like a reasonable thing to do.

We want to be able to install cellular plans for a number of providers and switch between them for testing.

@aaron as @jerdung said, it’s not possible to use the internal eSim with your own profile. We got that confirmed by Sierra Wireless.

But I also have to come back to this thread, because we have an external eSim attached to our WP7607.
@jerdung How can we set a profile for this external eSim?

Thanks,
Simon
