Hey guys, need some help setting up some modems for the field. I will upload some images so you have a better picture of what I’m dealing with. Airlink RV50 Network & Signal blinking Red. For the override APN I tried both (vzwinternet) and (we01.vzwstatic) which is the one our modems normally use. Let me know what I am doing wrong or can do, or what other information needed to help.
I understand. I reviewed the screen shots. One screen shot shows no SIM ID and 0 SIMs are inserted.
Is that right? Is a SIM inserted?
Yes. The only thing I could think of is if the modem is unable to read the sims, i made sure to use new sim cards and check if there was any issues with the slot, because I know it says Active SIM for Slot 1 but does that mean it detects something is there?
I understand. answer to your question - no, that does not mean something is detected.
I see the Verizon FW is active. Good! Can you tell me the number printed on the SIM card?
89148
00001
21632

Hi @mestevez,
Welcome to our community!
To help find out what is causing the issue, could you please try entering APNs “vzwinternet” and “we01.vzwstatic” separately? Please follow the instructions to collect the logs and template log for each case and send them to me.
-
The configuration template file is in ACEmanager → Template, provide any name you desire for the Template Name, and then press Download to retrieve the template file.
-
Collect logs procedure:
a. Go AceManager > Admin > Configure Logging
Set all log levels to DEFAULT (NOTICE)
Set Linux Syslog to DISPLAY
b. Reboot the gateway.
c. Perform your test again.
d. Go Admin → View log → Download Logs.
Thanks,
I separated them by folder and even included one for ne01.VZWSTATIC. I don’t know if caps affect this or not one of our other modems had this APN as well just incase.
While we wait for @jerdung to respond, I reviewed the log from one of the files. This one,
AceManager-20260811T141259Z-1-001\AceManager\vzw
The log contains some messages that catch my attention but I do not understand them. These messages,
Nov 14 10:18:35 notice ALEOS_CELL_RMAN: P8Starting::run: Wait sim ready to launch service/cellradio
Nov 14 10:18:35 err ALEOS_CELL_RMAN: *** cannot open /dev/ttyUSB2 to issue AT

Nov 14 10:18:36 notice ALEOS_CELL: Radio Enumeration Failed…No Serial Ports Available
end of log cut and paste
And I do see messages that show no SIM is inserted. So I have some new questions,
how many RV50s have you tested or prepared that behave like this? just one?
Hi @mestevez,
Based on the log below, it appears that something is leading to the gateway being unable to communicate with the radio module.

So, please try the “Reset to Factory Default” procedure by following the instructions in the Reset section of the Software Configuration User Guide for AirLink RV50X ( source.sierrawireless.com/resources/airlink/software_reference_docs/airlink-rv-series—configuration-guide/) and if the issue still occurs, please provide the full log for further investigation.
Thanks,
blackbow7 only 1 RV50 and 1 RV55 so far.
You will find the data under Attempt 2 for all 3 APN’s
After resetting still no luck, at what point do I consider it to be the hardware?
I see. I understand. I will look at the logs today. If the logs show the same thing, conclusion = it is the hardware. Guessing - Something wrong with the 4G module inside the RV. Wow though that is happening on two different devices. Strange.
New question - do you know where you bought these? asking, best to stay in touch with the distributor since this is the Semtech/Sierra Wireless model.
I reviewed the three logs in this folder,
\Attempt 2-20260813T175444Z-1-001\Attempt 2
conclusion - I see the same error, can not open the ttyUSB ports to the 4G LTE module inside and read or communicate with the SIM card.
If the SIM card was readable, we would see the 89148 address in the log. Not there.
conclusion - you have a hardware problem.
The hardware worked at one time though because I saw this SIM card address in the older log,
89148000010351763834
Can you try another RV50?
blackbow7 the RV55 actually detects the sim card compared to the RV50. The company buys them from a reseller, but I am thinking this is due to weather damage. We use them for constructions site monitoring and even though they stay protected in boxes, eventually water will get to them throughout time. The unit itself shows a bit of water damage. Want me to try to same SIM in a working RV50?
I understand now. I do not think it is 100% necessary to try the SIM card in a working RV50. I think we are at a conclusion, this RV50 is “damaged”.
How about the working RV55 and SIM card pair, are you OK here? have what you need? how can I help?
Ill send some screenshots over with log data, but it’s basically the same issue (Network Link Down). But the SIM is getting detected. I’ll try using the same SIM for this unit.
I understand. Alright, I will help.
Hi @mestevez,
Thanks for your update.
Based on the log below, it appears that the issue still occurs after performing the “Reset to Factory Default” procedure.

Nov 14 10:16:28 notice ALEOS_CELL: Radio Enumeration Failed…No Serial Ports Available
So, could you please try to put your device into Recovery mode following the instructions in the Recovery mode section of the Software Configuration User Guide for AirLink RV50X ( source.sierrawireless.com/resources/airlink/software_reference_docs/airlink-rv-series—configuration-guide/#sthash.GIya0GWh.dpbs) and let me know the result.
If the issue still occurs, it would be best for you to proceed with an RMA.
Thanks,
