RV55 Data not working

I have two RV55s with two SIM cards which are both activated. The first RV55 worked perfectly out of the box with no additional configuration. I simply put the SIM card in it and it automatically configured the APN and connected with data access. The signal LED indicator is green.

The second RV55 does not seem to have a data source. It is in Network State “Network Ready” but the signal indicator LED is flashing yellow. I have now tried both of the SIM cards on it, using the one from the working RV55. Same issue. Then, I used the other SIM card on the first RV55 and it worked. So, the issue is not the SIM cards.

Why is this flashing yellow on one, and doesn’t connect to data, but the other one it is solid green and connects with no additional configuration? What do I need to change?

If the SIM cards work when switched to the other unit, I would start to suspect the antenna(s). Do you have both cellular and diversity antennas installed? Have you tried relocating the modem a few feet in either direction?

From my experience, if the SIM is working and the RV5x is not, it has always (with a single exception out of the two fleets I have managed, one with 46 modems and the current one with 104) been either the antennas and/or interference in the area. The diversity antenna helps dramatically with the interference problem.

If you attach via either Ethernet (https://192.168.13.31:9443) or USB (https://192.168.14.31:9443), you should be able to see more information about the cellular network and radio firmware being used. Have you verified you have the correct firmware for your provider on the second unit?

Hi @anthony,

Welcome to our community!

  1. Please ensure that antennas are properly attached to RV55. Two antennas are required when connecting to an LTE network.

  2. Could you please get the log and template log by the instructions and send me to investigate this issue:

  • The configuration template file is in ACEmanager → Template, provide any name you desire for the Template Name, and then press Download to retrieve the template file.

  • Collect logs procedure:

    a. Go AceManager > Admin > Configure Logging

Set all log levels to DEFAULT (NOTICE)

    Set Linux Syslog to DISPLAY

    b. Reboot the gateway.

    c. Perform your test again.

    d. Go Admin → View log → Download Logs.

Thanks,

You were right, it was the antennas!

I mistakenly put a 2.4GHz WiFi antenna on the one that was not working, instead of one that covers 4G LTE bands. The ones I have both look very similar.

After making the antenna correction, all is working. Thank you for the suggestion.
