Is modem manager only connecting with proxy gateway or simple gateway?

I have a query regarding the modem manager.
Modem manager will it helping to transmission of data over the serial network via AT commands.

Thanks for response jerdung.

We are using Seirra gateway GL7812.
Here my query is, Is modem manager can connecting only with proxy gateway. Is proxy gateway mandatory or we can use simple gateway?
Modem manager will it helping to transmission of data over the serial network via AT commands, UART, MQTT, HTTP ?

Can you please answer on my queries ?
