I am getting this error when trying to upgrade from 4.5.1 to 4.9.0.
Extracting tar file failed (Invalid argument)
I use the Verizon network and corresponding upgrade file.
Any help on this issue, much appreciated.

Same, but only on 2 of my modems. A few others worked fine.
I’ve got 8 GX450s that refuse to update…extracting tar file failed. No help from Sierra here, I guess.
Any time I have FW upgrade issues. I do a factory reset on the unit then try the upgrade again.
Tried that multiple times, have tried going from 4.5.1 to 4.8.0, have tried 4.5.1 to 4.9.3 / no success and not a peep from SW
if you have a service contract, send the unit back and tell them it is defective. Make them fix it, dunno what else you could do. Good luck.
