EM7411 Verizon Activation

I purchased the EM7411 because Verizon list it as an approved module. I’m not able to activate it online because Verizon says the device’s IMEI is not eligible for activation. Verizon helpfully suggest I reach out to the device manufacturer to ensure they have entered the device IMEI properly into the Verizon systems. Verizon telephone activation support are no more helpful. For my part I made sure to install the latest Verizon firmware (SWI9X50C_01.14.07.00 3a9262 jenkins 2021/01/07 06:45:47) Our h/w revision is 1.1. All indications are that the device works perfectly but can’t get past the Verizon activation wall.

I contacted Sierra Wireless Technical Support and they sent me here.

I’ve seen elsewhere in this forum that others have had similar problems and have achieved activation by using a SIM activated on a retail, Verizon approved, USB modem and then switching the SIM to their EM74** module. This seems like a hack to me and I think it would be impractical for the numbers of devices we plan to deploy. If anyone has another idea of how I can get this device activated I’d appreciate the help.

Thank you.

Hi patrick1,

I’ve searched EM7411 in the Verizon OD Showcase and it is not present. It could explain that your device cannot be activated.
https://opendevelopment.verizonwireless.com/device-showcase

By the way, I see that your device is attached to the network. It should work normally.

Thanks,

Hi jerdung,

Thank you for your time and effort. I sincerely appreciate it.

I found this QA in the Verizon FAQ explaining that “approved modules” still must go through the OD process. I wish they had made it clearer that, apparently, only Verizon branded retail devices can be activated without going through the OD Device Certification Process.

Since the EM7411 is supported by a variety of carriers I’ll be exploring my other options for activation before choosing to invest considerable time. money, and effort attempting Verizon certification.

Cheers,
Patrick
