AirLink RV50 - Why would I suddenly lose signal and need new APN?

Hi all,

I have a number of Sierra AirLink RV50s in operation in various sites. Last week one of them stopped working, the signal and network LEDs were flashing red, nobody had touched this or re configured it in any way and there was no issue with the SIM card.

I managed to get it working again by changing the APN from isp.vodafone.ie to hs.vodafone.ie on Acemanager.

As we are using this on a number of critical sites, I have to be able to explain what happened here.

We contacted Vodafone and there were no issues on their end with converage and the isp APN should still be working.

Has anybody experienced this before or has any idea why the APN suddenly stopped working and the device lost signal?

Any help on this would be greatly appreciated!

Hi all,

Just a follow up query on this. Is there any way of having a backup or failover APN in the event of service lost? The customer we are working with is concerned that this would randomly drop service with no explanation and would like some redundancy built in…

So is there an APN failover option or is it just a failover to the second sim card in the event of network outage?

Thanks,

Mark.

Hi @mark123,

  • To narrow down the issue, please try inserting the Vodafone SIM into another device, change the APN to hs.vodafone.ie and check if the same issue occurs.
  • Please try inserting a SIM from another Mobile Network Operator into the RV50 and check if the same issue occurs.
  • Please send me the log and template log before the APN change and after the APN change.
  • The question “Is there any way of having a backup or failover APN in the event of service lost?” → RV50 has APN Backup feature, please refer to page 92 on Software Configuration User Guide for AirLink RV50X.

Thanks,
