The WIP v2.00 Sample "“TCP Client” seems to be using a couple of undocumented WIP Features:
The parameters to the wip_netInitOpts() call in applic.c are WIP_NET_OPT_DEBUG_PORT, WIP_NET_DEBUG_PORT_UART1 - neither of which is mentioned anywhere in the Development Guide (WIPlib V2.00).
WIP_NET_OPT_DEBUG… are still not mentioned in the v5.10 WIPLib manual. 
Still undocumented in the v5.41 Guide
The corresponding wip_logEvents flag is also undocumented.

Stupidly, IMO, wip_netInitOpts() is now deprecated - see: https://forum.sierrawireless.com/t/new-features-complete-api/3305/18
But AT+WIPS - the suggested alternative - does not mention these options either!
