RV55 poor WiFi signal

Hello,

I have an RV55 router running Aleos 4.15.0. I’m using the WiFi A port in Client mode. The Wifi A antenna port is plugged to a 6001285 4-In-1 Sierra antenna. The RV55 manages to connect to my office WiFi router, the Network led is flashing green (Network Ready).

However, the Signal led is flashing red (Inadequate) and the reported RSSI is -55. The office WiFi is located at 2 meters from the RV55 without obstacles. I tried to connect to different WiFi routers, using different antennas, in different locations, but the result is still the same: red signal led.

Thanks,

Mathieu

Hi m.othacehe,

If your wifi signal strength RSSI is -55dBm, it’s a good one. You can refer here:
https://www.screenbeam.com/wifihelp/wifibooster/wi-fi-signal-strength-what-is-a-good-signal/

I also did a test on my device running ALEOS 4.15. My device connected to wifi as client. I observed the Signal led and see that it flashed in red without SIM and solid green with sim inserted. That means when ALEOS gateway is on the LTE network and has an LTE connection, the reports (could be RSRP and SINR) from the radio are used to determine the signal bars.

Thanks,

Ok, thanks for clarifying that! The issue though is that the latency is really bad.
In the following configuration:

PC1 ----> WIFI Router <------ RV55 Wifi Client mode
               ^ ^
               | | (ethernet)
              PC3 PC2

When running netperf between PC1 and PC2, I have the following report:

Minimum Latency Microseconds,Maximum Latency Microseconds,Mean Latency Microseconds
777935,2549767,1899645.75

While between PC1 and PC3, I have:

Minimum Latency Microseconds,Maximum Latency Microseconds,Mean Latency Microseconds
658,43263,1568.98

Going through the RV55, the mean latency is 1.9 seconds, which makes it pretty unsuable. Any idea what could go wrong here?

Thanks,

Mathieu

Hi m.othacehe,

Is there any drop when you ping between PC1 & PC2 in a long time?

I need to take a look at your configuration. Could you share your configuration? You can download your device configuration by going to ACEmanager then navigating to tab Template ->Download.

Thanks,

Hello jerdung,

Please find my RV55 configuration and the ping report you asked for here: https://othacehe.org/work/report.tgz. Also note that I own three other RV55 and the issue is fully reproducible.

Thanks,

Mathieu

Hi m.othacehe,

Thank you for your sharing.

Your ping result doesn’t have any drop in the long run, it doesn’t seem to be unstable.

I had a look at your configuration file. Your device is running ALEOS 4.13, you should update to the latest one (ALEOS 4.15). Also, turn off port forwarding if you don’t use it.

Thanks,
