RV50X Hang While Flashing Radio Firmware

Hi, I’m flashing RV50X Radio firmware, and it seems to be hang / halt forever with Power LED always ON stat. What can I do next?

Hi @jimmy_ho,

Welcome to our community!

Please answer the questions below to investigate this issue:

  1. Which are the ALEOS and the Radio Module firmware that your RV50X uses?

  2. Could you please describe the steps in detail when you upgrade the radio firmware?

  3. Are you getting the radio module firmware from the Source page: https://source.sierrawireless.com/resources/airlink/software_downloads/rv50/rv50x-firmware-list/#st… to upgrade the radio firmware? If not, please use it.

  4. Could you please share a screenshot when the device hung during the radio firmware upgrade process?

Please refer to the section Updating Only the Radio Module Firmware on https://source.sierrawireless.com/resources/airlink/software_reference_docs/airlink-rv-series—con… (page 31, 381).

Thanks,

  1. ALEOS software version 4.9.0 Build number 016, Radio module Type MC7455 Module SPRINT.
  2. Update Radio firmware via ACEmanager via LAN.
  3. Yes, Radio firware downloaded from official sierrawireless website.
  4. Not able to provide as no screen shot being taken and the process of updating been more than more than 2-hours. It hang after rebooting steps in ACEmanager with power green light ON show on the device.

On top of that, the device now seems to be bricked as it always stays at showing power LED ON status after restart / power cycle the device. Any chance to do a hard reset to the device instead?

Been tried to go into recovery mode following steps in ALEOS configuration manual but unsuccessful and it seem bricked.

Lastly, can I claim for product warranty due to this incident? Anyone manage to claim for product warranty due to ALEOS / Radio firmware flashing issues that caused device bricked?

Hi @jimmy_ho,

What signs make you think the device is bricked after you tried to recover it via recovery mode due to ALEOS/Radio firmware flashing issues?

Does the device start when you plug it in? Is the green light on?

When you connect the device to the computer, does it show the port?

Thanks,

Hi @jerdung ,

  1. Tried recovery mode (Amber flashing power LED) but the device remains inaccessible via given IP (http://192.168.13.31:9191) as per the instruction.
  2. Tried to ping 192.168.13.31 and failed.
  3. Only Power LED lighted ON (static) with no other lights ON.
  4. Restart the device several times into recovery mode and all failed.

With above effort to recover, I think the device likely bricked after Radio firmware flashing failed. Or is there any other methods of factory reset can be done?
