We have a fleet of XR80 configured on a private 4G cellular APN. Using our standard monitoring tool (Solarwinds) we wish to build a dashboard showing router uptime etc and to generate alerts when we see specific failure patterns.
The XR80 we are using doesn’t seem to expose SNMP to the cellular interface so we would like to monitor uptime for the device using Ping.
So far I’ve not been able to get a ping response to our monitoring service from the cellular interface and I can’t locate the configuration to allow it.
Looking for advise on how to allow ping response on the WAN interface.
If you are wondering why we can’t use Sierra AirVantage for the monitoring/alerting. Unfortunately the alert conditions don’t permit the level of condition complexity we require to generate an alert.
I am also looking to be able to monitor our fleet of XR80’s via SNMP or some other Zabbix compatible protocol or API, as we already have a fairly robust monitoring setup using SNMP just about everywhere else and unfortunately, being a small municipality, we don’t have the resources for ALMS even if it met our needs.
Typically, the carrier provides a SIM card with a private IP, so external devices can’t ping the XR80. To enable external devices to ping the XR80, a SIM card with a Public IP is required.
