MC7304 Insert SIM in Windows 10

I have a MC7304 fitted in a M.2 socket with drivers installed. Its showing the following in log file:

ATQ0V1E0 - OK
AT+GMM - MC7304
AT+FCLASS=? - +FCLASS: (0-1)
AT#CLS=? - COMMAND NOT SUPPORTED
AT+GCI? - COMMAND NOT SUPPORTED
AT+GCI=? - COMMAND NOT SUPPORTED
ATI1 - Manufacturer: Sierra Wireless, Incorporated
Model: MC7304
Revision: SWI9X15C_05.05.58.00 r27038 carmd-fwbuild1 2015/03/04 21:30:23
IMEI: xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
IMEI SV: 18
FSN: J3838408480110
+GCAP: +CGSM,+DS,+ES
I have replaced IMEI number with x’s, shows valid number.
In Windows I get “Insert SIM”. Its connected to SIM2 connections on the M2 socket. The SIM worked fine in my phone. I have inserted it the right way round. I have thoroughly checked wiring is correct.
I have wires soldered on to the SIM card pins with scope probes attached and I see no activity at all not even sim power.
Is this a configuration issue? Any ideas what to try. Does it need to be on SIM1?
I have an unpopulated ESIM footprint on my board so shouldn’t see anything on SIM1.

What is response of AT+cpin?
Does “AT!ICCID?” return correct value of your SIM card?

How do I query this?
I have Skylight 4814 installed, and its not seeing sim card either.
I’m a hardware developer, do I need to connect on com port?

yes, you can check if there is modem port or AT command port in device manager.

Hi
I have a DM port on COM5, and NMEA on COM6.
I’ve seen data on COM6 at 9600, getting NMEA strings. Is it same settings on COM5? 9600 8bits 1 stop NONE NONE
There is also a WWAN Modem on COM7 cant get anything on COM5 or COM7. I’m using PuTTY.
Anything else I need to set up?

do you see modem port in device manager?

See screenshot uploaded

then WWAN modem is the AT command port.

Ok do you have recommended settings for this port (COM7)

no, just use tera term to open COM7 and try the AT command

Its ok got it working, my SIM card has been “borrowed” will try tomorrow.
With no sim card inserted I get “ERROR”. Is that expected?

yes, it is expected if no SIM card.

AT+cpin
ERROR
AT!ICCID?
ERROR

It looks like the SIM card is not being recognised. I’m also seeing no activity on SIM2 interface.
Can my schematics be checked by someone? I’ll need an email address to send it to.

What is the return of “AT!UIMS?”

For schematic review, you need to contact distributor.

AT!UIMS?
ERROR

I have tried in a known working unit that is connected to SIM 1 and I get the serial number of the SIM
with AT!ICCID?dseries_modem_sim

This is an old SIM with no service, so I’d only expect to see SIM card number.

Then that means thus is particular module problem?

No, our problem, the MC7304 does not support SIM2.
The design has been made for the MC7455 but production were struggling to get them, so a decision was made to use old stock of MC7304, the original module. It turns out the pins we are connecting to are NC pins, so no wonder it doesn’t work!
Thanks for the support you’ve provided, I think I have the answer!

OK I’ve now got correct card MC7455

I get this:
AT!ICCID?
!ICCID: NOT IMPLEMENTED

OK
AT+cpin
ERROR
AT!UIMS?
!UIMS: 0

OK

Have the AT commands changed for MC7455?.

you should use AT+CPIN? with question mark

I get response READY

Is there a way to read sim card number?
