Installing WIPSoft AT Commands - Driving me mad!

Hi All,

I’m new here and new to OpenAt. I have picked up an embedded project with uses am AirPrime Q2686 and I need to install WIPSOFT so I can get the addition AT commands like AT+WIPCREATE. I don’t want to write programs on the modem, just enable the AT+WIP commands. The project has a PIC that talks to the modem to do FTP transfers.

So far I have updated the firmware using an XModem connection to 7.52 and thought I would just have to download another dwl file containing WIPSOFT but I can’t find one on Sierra website. All the documentation suggests that it is included with the Developer Studio package. There is no binary file here.

I have deduced (correctly I hope) that these are enabled by building a project that I found at:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Sierra Wireless\Embedded Software\com.wavecom.openat.ide.spm.lib.plugin.model.WIP.5.56.0.201305170830_5.56.0.201305170830\resources\WIP\samples\WIPSoft

Surely I don’t have to build it do I? If I do then I am struggling as there is no project file so I just get a load of errors due to bad include paths.

Your help is appreciated!

Cheers

Jon

Hi John,

The WIPSoft download IS bundled with Developer Studio - it’s just not all that easy to find.

In my installation it is at:

C:\OpenAT-DS-2.2.1\Embedded Software\com.wavecom.openat.ide.spm.lib.plugin.model.WIP.5.54.0.201206011257_5.54.0.201206011257\resources\WIP\samples\WIPSoft\bin

(yep, all one line!). The

C:\OpenAt-DS-2.2.1

directory is where I installed Dev Studio - your base directory may vary.

Likewise, the directory

com.wavecom.openat.ide.spm.lib.plugin.model.WIP.5.54.0.201206011257_5.54.0.201206011257

may vary slightly depending on the version of WIP installed on your machine.

Finally, you’re looking for the file

WIPSoft.dwl

NOTE VERY CAREFULLY that the version of WIPSoft that you install to your modem MUST be in the same software bundle as the firmware file - otherwise the application won’t start and you’ll be in a world of confusion. This shouldn’t be a problem if you have only installed DS with no updates - but once you’ve let DS update, there may be multiple versions of the API/Firmware and Wipsoft available on your machine. I think that version 5.54 is for FW 7.52, but I’m not certain.

Also, in the same general area is the PDF version of the WIPSoft user guide. This may also be helpful to you.

Why the DWL and PDF files are not more accessible, I don’t know.

Hope this helps.

ciao, Dave

Thanks for your help but there is no “bin” folder at that location.

I have just re-installed by running “Open_AT_Application_Framework_v2-52_Full_Installer.exe”

On my machine:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Sierra Wireless\Embedded Software\com.wavecom.openat.ide.spm.lib.plugin.model.WIP.5.56.0.201305170830_5.56.0.201305170830\resources\WIP\samples\WIPSoft

contains only the following:

resources (folder)
src (folder)
readme.html
wmnew.opt

Any suggestions?

Here’s all the dwl’s in the Embedded Software folder. Everything else is there but no WipSoft?

For 7.52 it is in the extended at package:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Sierra Wireless\Embedded Software\com.wavecom.openat.ide.spm.lib.plugin.model.ExtendedATApplication.1.3.0.A1.201307021020_1.3.0.A1_201307021020\resources\ExtendedATApplication\bin

There you should find:
ExtendedATApplication.dwl

Download it on the module and and you will have all the wip at commands.

THANK YOU!

What a simple piece of information!

Hi all,
please note that packaged apps are available for direct download from the Package Manager perspective’s Installed Packages view:

  • Just locate the package (e.g. the Extended AT Application bundled in the Open AT Application Framework matching with your FW version)
  • Expand the tree node to access to the packaged application
  • Right-click and select Download to embedded module

Surely easier that looking for DWL files on the disk!

Hiya,

But that’s not very clear for a new user … especially an experienced developer used to looking for files to download.

Just my 2c.

ciao, Dave

Hi,
Do you know how can i get the WIPSoft for firmware 7.47.4 ?
Thanks

Hiya,

You have to install Dev Studio (from the download on the Developer Zone website).

Once you have installed Dev Studio, open the Packages Manager Perspective (Window->Open Perspective->Other, select Packages Manager)

In the left-hand pane, there will be an entry ‘Default Sierra Wireless Repository’. Right click, select Refresh Repository and wait for the refresh to complete. Once complete, a little triangle will appear on the left side of the repository name. Click this and it should expand and display all the Application packages available.

You will need to install Open AT Application Framework Package 2.37.4 (which is the bundle that supports Firmware 7.47.4). Right click on the package, and select Install Selected Packages.

Sit back and wait - from memory the package download is around 300MB or so.

Then follow the instructions at [url=https://forum.sierrawireless.com/t/installing-wipsoft-at-commands-driving-me-mad/6981/1] to download the WIP AT command application into your modem.

ciao, Dave
