FX30S no connection to LTE with the french provider SFR

Hi all,

Are there some French people around? I wonder if anybody have tried to use an SFR SIM card with the FX30. The APN is “websfr” : +CGDCONT=1,“IP”,“websfr”, … I can only connect to the GSM network. It is impossible to get a connection to LTE. I tried the SIM card on my smartphone an it worked with 4G. I also tried the FX30 with other SIM card from the provider ORANGE and it connected to the LTE network without problem. Therefore, there is some kind of incompatibility with SFR and the FX30. Anyone has experiment the same issue? Of course, because of my company policy, I can not change for an other provider that easily.

Thanks a lot.

Hi @Romain.B,
When you insert your activated SIM Card, in most cases your mobile device will automatically update with the required settings. However, you need to do this manually on FX30s. I wonder that is “websfr” APN used for LTE?
Can you verify the APN is displayed on your smartphone is the same on the module? If no, please change APN on FX30S then try again. If same, please try

Thanks a lot for the reply.

Yes, the apn for my smartphone is the same :“websfr”. I tried others and it didn’t work, therefore “websfr” seems to be be the good one.

Here is for the at command :

@Romain.B

So this is an FX30 LPWA which means it can do M1, NB1 and 2G, it cannot do standard LTE. If you want to use M1 or NB1 (assuming you have coverage) you will typically need to get a special SIM card from the given operator, a commercial SIM card, as a rule, will not work.

First step though is to see if you are able to see anything other than a 2G network with the at+cops=? command (which will take a while to complete).

Matt

Thanks for the comment Matt.

Which info tells you that I can not do LTE with the modem? As I wrote in my first post, I tried the FX30S with a SIM card from an other french provider and it worked for LTE. My only action was to change the apn name and to set AT!SELRAT=06.

Thx.

@Romain.B

So the core module inside the unit is a WP7702 as can be seen from the commands you sent.
Model: FX30(WP7702)

This is an LPWA/2G module. There are a few different variants of the FX30S, the original being 2G/3G, this one LPWA and 2G and another which is cat 1 LTE (and 2G/3G). The variants are described in the user guide.
https://source.sierrawireless.com/resources/airlink/hardware_reference_docs/airlink_fx30s_hw_user_guide/

In theory the unit could roam directly onto M1 but typically you do need a SIM with specific rights and there will be a specific APN. Your phone and SIM obviously uses commercial LTE cat 1 +.

Hi,

Actually, the version that I have is the FX30S LTE-M. This is the version for Europe. If I can not connect with SFR, it is probably because it doesn’t work with LTE-M.

Thanks.
