EM9191 : AT+CFUN=1 returns CME ERROR: operation not supported

I’m working with the EM9191.
Originally I was working with
Version : SWIX55C_01.07.08.00 000000 jenkins 2020/11/16 10:11:33
and I was able to register and connect to the network.

For some reason I was only able to use LTE and not 5G.

So I decided to upgrade to the latest firmware but unfortunately I am no longer able to enable the radio using “AT+CFUN=1”. It seems to return “CME ERROR: operation not supported”.

What would be the cause of this error?

Seems you cannot directly upgrade from 1.7.8.0 to 3.9.11.0.

I followed the instructions under Linux:Older than R18 drivers:USB:

I am now able to connect to the network.
It is not the same version that I originally had, but close enough.
This is Deutsche Telekom approved version. Not sure it matters.

Do you think that if I move to a more up to date version (3.x), it might help getting a 5G channel to work?

If so, based on the Release Notes, I would need to move to SP1_RC6.
Is SP1_RC6 a service pack for Windows drivers and apps? If so, do you know what would be the equivalent for Linux?

How can I get a hold of 1.7.19.0?

Is your sim 5g sim?
Did you check at!selrat? And at!band?
Is your Apn correct for 5g?
Did you establish data traffic to the host? If no data traffic, it will stay in lte mode

    Yes as we tried it with a 5g phone and it comes up.

  2. Is your APN correct for 5g?
    I think it is. The service provider is Rogers.
    According to their web site, it should be ltemobile.apn.
    When we check with a 5g phone, it says ltedata.apn.

  3. Did you establish data traffic to the host?
    Yes, as I can ping the internet with 8.8.8.8.
    Can I switch to 5g on the fly with an AT command?

Yes, you need to generate data traffic as mentioned above

as per your results, in general the current 5G deployment is in NSA and DSS mode (each network differently).
the signaling channel still working over LTE, but the data channel working over 5G interface.
so, if you are not open data channel (e.g start data session and send/receive data over the EM9191 module) you will stay in signaling mode on LTE.
when you connect to 5G network it will present on +COPS? results as you can see in you log +COPS: 0,0,“ROGERS ROGERS”,13, that mean you are connect to 5G NSA network.
after you will open the data session you will see ENDC mode in !GSTATUS? result.
