EM7511 - Tool to enable CBRS Band 48

I recently was put on a project to test a number of vendors CBRS modules against a large CBRS provider. I inherited a number of modules including a Sierra EM7511. It had ancient firmware on it which I updated to the latest GENERIC build. I don’t see B48 listed in the AT!BAND=? query. Based on some old discussions on the forum it looks like early units didn’t have that band enabled and there is a update tool to enable. Any chance I could get a hold of that updater? I currently don’t have a commercial contact for Sierra to ping directly. On a side note I also have an MC7411 which is connecting great to B48!

Hi @greg1 ,
Welcome you to our community!
Please try using command AT!ENTERCND=“A710” then AT!BAND=?
Do the issue still happen in this case?
If you have seen band 48 but it’s not working, please let me know so I can help you further.

Thanks,

AT!BAND=?

I tried upgrading the firmware hoping it would do the trick. Also tried adding a custom band selection and including a mask for B48 even though it wasn’t available in the list and it doesn’t seem to work around the issue.

Hi @greg1 ,
Please try using the commands below to get into band 48:

AT!ENTERCND=“A710”
AT!BAND=09,“Band 48”,0,0000800000000000

If it returns “ERROR”, please give me the output of the commands below:

AT!ENTERCND=“A710”
AT+CPIN?
AT+CCID
AT+CSQ
AT+CGDCONT?
AT+COPS?
AT+COPS=?

Hi @greg1 ,
As far as I know, you are using a network provider in the US? If yes, please go to the link below to upgrade the latest firmware corresponding to the network you are using (for example, if you are using a Verizon SIM, you upgrade firmware Verizon-SWI9X50C_01.14.07.00):
https://source.sierrawireless.com/resources/airprime/minicard/75xx/em_mc75xx-approved-fw-packages/#sthash.pZgKhpXr.dpbs
Then try again, do the issue still happens in this case?

Thanks,

@jerdung I tried switching from the latest GENERIC to the AT&T and then the VERIZON and back to GENERIC and still see the same behavior. I am using AWS as a CBRS provider and am able to connect on other devices (including sierra) so I expect everything is OK with the SIM and network. Just seems like this module isn’t allowing me to scan B48.

Based on some other forum posts:

Looks like early samples didn’t include B48 intentionally and there is an updater tool to enable it. Since this unit was in a batch of early engineering units I speculate it is old. Any way to get ahold of the updater?

Hi @greg1 ,
For tools that are not published on the source page, please email tech support: support@sierrawireless.com to get it and be guided on how to use it.
