Cant connect with HL7800 with wide band SIM. Narrow ban works fine

We are using an HL7810 modem. When we use a narrow band sim card there is no problem in connecting but when we use a wide band sim CSQ returns 99,99

we have the modem set with CEREG=3 and this gives the following approx. 90 seconds after resetting the modem:

+CEREG: 0
+CEREG: 2
+CEREG: 3,0,13
+CEREG: 3
+CEREG: 2
+CEREG: 0
+CEREG: 2
+CEREG: 3,0,11

AT+CSQ
+CSQ: 99,99

When the Narrow band sim card is in the modem we get
+CEREG: 2
+CEREG: 0
+CEREG: 2
+CEREG: 5,“242D”,“0828601F”,9

AT+CSQ
+CSQ: 10,99

a. Any ideas on what might be the problem ?
b. Are there any AT commands we can use to try to debug the problem further ?

It seems that shows the EMM reject cause in the message of +CEREG:

Is it the same for HL7800 and HL7810?

Have you verified the wide band SIM with other vendor to make sure your SIM is working fine?

Have you checked AT+CEER for more information?

We only have the HL7810

The sims work fine in different modems.

AT+CERR gives the following

ROAMING_NOT_ALLOWED_IN_THIS_TRACKING_AREA
PLMN_NOT_ALLOWED

seems this is rejected by the network operator
have you checked with the operator?

Yes we have checked with the operator - also these sims work with other equipment.

how did the operator say?
did they provide the SIM for roaming?

BTW, do you need to set the correct APN in AT+CGDCONT?

The apn setup
Waiting to speak to the operator
Is there a command that will enable wide band connection perhaps ?

For your other workable equipment, are they LTE cat-m device?

I think they are not CAT-M. The provider does not support CAT-M as far as I am aware.

We are in discussions with the provider - it appears that wide band connections from other devices are fine but not from the HL7810. We think something must have changed with the operator which is now rejecting WB connections from the HL7810 but not from other modems. So we are trying to find out if there is some AT command that we need to use to configure the modem.

Is there a command to enable roaming on the modem, or is this always enabled ?

How do you verify this if the operator does not support CAT-M?

I’m not sure what CAT-M is but can you answer the question about a command to enable roaming ?

you can see here for LTE CAT-M

Didn’t you already enable roaming in the narrow band case?

For locking to home network only, have you tried the AT+COPS in manual mode to select the MCC-MNC which is home network only?

I don’t know - Please can you tell me the command, If there is one, to enable roaming. Thanks

Didn’t you already enable roaming in the narrow band case?

I can see this in your module “+CEREG: 5,“242D”,“0828601F”,9”

All I would like to know is whether there is an AT command to enable Roaming - just that. If I’ve already done it then great but please tell me what the command is.

No, i don’t see such command
As said before, roaming is already enabled in your module

So just to clarify - there is no AT command available for the modem that will allow roaming - am I right ?

as said before, from your log, that is already enabled!!!

We have many cards and we don’t necessarily know what their state is. So please - I ask again politely - irrespective of what my previous log showed - is there an AT command that can be entered that enables or disables roaming on a SIM inserted in the HL7810 ?

As mentioned before, i don’t quite see such command in the AT command user guide
