Having a problem, its come up a few times now. Carrier A has an internal network problem, the XR unit is connected to it, signal strength is great, but you can’t get to anything. Carrier B is also connected, it is fully functional, I can get to resources I need. Why does it not fail over to Carrier B? Why is Carrier A still “validated” when it can’t get to anything.
I’m trying to understand the validation of the interface.
If you look at the Multi-wan link here, Configuring Multi-WAN Policies - XR80-4.0 - Sierra Wireless
you can see the last step is validated, but what is the validation process? Can I edit it? To me it looks like its bugged and just doesn’t work, there is no validation going on.
Hi @swnelson,
Please answer the questions below to investigate this issue:
- What is your XR80 using AirLink OS?
- According to the description, I understand that you use two SIM cards. 1 SIM from carrier A and 1 SIM from carrier B. Do you want to automatically switch to carrier B when carrier A has an issue? If not, please clearly describe.
- Please send me the screenshot when you configure Multi-WAN Policies (Policy Route Management, Roaming Policies, Signal Policies, Wi-Fi SSID Policies, Speed Policies) to investigate this issue.
Thanks,
Can you try these solutions
- Adjust Validation Settings: Check the XR80’s configuration for WAN validation. Enable more comprehensive checks like:
- Ping Test: Set it to ping a known external IP (e.g.,
8.8.8.8
). - DNS Check: Add a DNS resolution test to ensure network reachability.
- Failover Policy: Make sure the failover settings use these enhanced checks, not just link status, to determine when to switch carriers.
- Firmware Update: Ensure the XR80 is running the latest firmware, as this might be a bug in the current version.
I hope this will help you….…
