Updating EM7455 in Windows 10

Hi everybody,

I’m having a hell of a time trying to update the firmware of my EM7455 on my Dell Latitude 5490. Device Manager shows it as a DW5811e Snapdrgon X7 LTE.

I’m trying to use my Google Fi Data-only SIM.

It only shows “T-Mobile” and does not register properly. When I run either of the generic FW packages found here: https://source.sierrawireless.com/resources/airprime/minicard/74xx/airprime-em_mc74xx-approved-fw-packages/

It gives me this output:

C:\Drivers\Sierra>fdt2.exe -d g5k -ignswto -f SWI9X30C_02.30.01.01.cwe SWI9X30C_02.30.01.01_GENERIC_002.045_001.nvu

Hi Jeff,

I think you did install Sierra driver package.

Could you try this,

  1. modify registry key “HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Sierra Wireless Inc\Firmware\GENERIC” to “002.045_001”.
  2. confirm the firmware exist in the folder specified in registry key “HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Sierra Wireless Inc\QDL\FirmwareLocation”. If not, you may need copy the .cwe and .nvu file to that folder.
  3. restart computer.

after step 3, see whether firmware upgrade happen. if not. let me know. I may need you capture some logs.

Thanks,

@wzhang

Hello, I confirmed 1), but did not even find the registry key in 2). Should I:

  • Restart, and then run the upgrade tool again, OR
  • Create the registry key manually?

Thanks!

@jenova314
Try restart the computer first.

@wzhang

Just tried it tonight. Exact same output :frowning:

The registry key FirmwareLocation is also still non-existent.

@jenova314 Seems your driver package does not include any firmware. Can you help to setup TeamViewer session so that I could take a look remotely?
Before that, let me know where is your fdt2.exe and .cwe .nvu firmware located.

Thanks,

@jenova314 Did you manage to install the latest firmware? please share how?

Thanks,
Anish
