SL808X Interfaces to Host Application Processor

Hi,

Whats the best option for interfacing SL808X with host application processor?
The host processor needs to polling the status of SL808X and peek/poke the AT commands infrequently.

UART1 on the SL808X is used for debug and firmware upgrade.
SPI on SL808X is master mode only.

So any other options for the host application processor to bi-direction communicate with the SL808X?
