We have many RV50x in service and we use the serial port to send data from RS-232 sensors (UDP mode). This has all been working well for a few years.
Recently, after upgrading some modems to v4.17.0, some RV50x units randomly stop sending the RS-232 data. We can remotely log into the modem and reboot it, then RS-232 data begins again.
The log contains nothing of note but log detail is only set to ‘notice’.
We have factory reset the modems and re-configured them without using a template.
@jerdung, are there any known changes in v4.17 which affect operation of the serial port or the interpretation of the serial port configuration parameters? I read the release notes for 4.17 and 4.17.1 but there’s nothing helpful there.
Are other customer experiencing random serial port problems on v4.17.0 ?
Based on your description, the good RV50X devices are running an older firmware version. What ALEOS version and radio module firmware are they using?
Did you make any configuration changes related to the serial port after upgrading to the latest ALEOS version?
You have a few RV50Xs that aren’t working well, but after rebooting, they function as expected. Do you have any RV50Xs with the same ALEOS and configuration as the good ones, but that are still experiencing issues?
If possible, please share full log files and template files from both the device that is working well on the older firmware and the one experiencing issues on the latest firmware with me.

Our ‘good’ devices are running 4.16.0.21 and 2.38 (MC7430 for the APAC market).
We also have some 4.17.0 units that aren’t playing up.

No. As I mentioned, I gather there can be incompatibilities between very old templates and the latest ones so we have factory reset these units OTA and re-configured them without a template.

I have about 15 RV50x units , all v4.17 , on the same type of RS-232 system. Half have been locking up on the serial port, and the others have not caused a problem.
