RV55 model 1104302 unable to retrieve data from network

I have an RV55 model 1104302 pro router.

Originally, I bought this for use in North America however our North American factory no longer needed it so we wanted to re-use the hardware in Thailand. I have an active SIM card in Thailand and the Sierra Wireless says unable to connect to any network. I am not sure what else I can try? The cellular service I have a sim card for is AIS.

Any help or guidance is appreciated.

Hi @bmeyers,

Welcome to our community!

What radio module firmware is your RV55 running? If you are using the RV55 with the WP7610 North America radio module firmware, you won’t be able to use it with the AIS SIM card.

AIS supports LTE bands B1, B3, B8, and B41, which are not supported by the WP7610 North America radio module.
Please refer to Table 3-15: RV55 Radio Module WP7610 North America on page 58 of the AirLink RV55 Hardware User Guide at the following link: https://source.sierrawireless.com/resources/airlink/hardware_reference_docs/airlink_rv55_userguide/

Thanks,

Hello. Thank you.

After a day of research we found the following information.

This is the North America (EM7511) firmware “RV55 Radio Module Firmware for Generic Operators”.

We were NOT able to install the Global (EM7565) firmware version. We also have a new error message “Not Connected”. This error message changed after we entered the override APN “internet”. However, later in the day we realized the APN might actually require a capital first letter “Internet” but haven’t had a chance to test that.

From what I am reading this model (1104302) does support the B1 band which AIS also supports.

If changing the APN from “internet” to “Internet” doesn’t work then I am unsure of how to proceed.

Edit: My colleague just told me he tried both versions of the APN and neither helped.

One thing I have found is the area around this factory doesn’t have many AIS towers but has several TRUE towers. I am going to see if I can get a TRUE SIM that supports 4G - LTE.

After much trial and error we tried a new SIM card that had a data plan included. This SIM card with AIS did work versus the previous card. We then had the previous card upgraded to an internet plan.

So the RV55 (1104302) is working in Thailand successfully now.
