RV50 USB port as a serial port

I use the serial and ethernet ports on an RV50 to connect to a Data Collection Platforms (DC) and poll data from teh DCP to my office. Is there any way I can use the USB port on the RV50 to connect the USB port on the DCP and talk to it?

Hi @warren,

Welcome to our community!
Could you please take a look at the below questions and share your answers?

  1. Could you provide a detailed datasheet of the Data Collection Platform?
  2. Could you clarify what you mean by “talk to it”? What do you want the RV50 to do with the DCP?

Thanks,

HI Jerdung,

The DCP is a Sutron Satlink 3 logger. We use it to record water level and MEt data at remote locations. On our older DCPs there are a number of serial ports and one is used to connect to the RV50, works well and we are able to poll the data from the DCP thru the RV50. The new DCP only has one serial port which is used for a sensor but the DCP has a USB port that can be used for polling or maintinence. As the RV50 has a USB port I was thinking I might be able to use it to connect to the DCP. Hope this explains what I am trying to do.

Regards

Warren

Hi @warren,

The USB port of the RV50X has a USB Serial mode (the USB port acts as a virtual Serial port), so you can try setting up the USB Serial on the RV50X as follows, after that you can try to connect with the DCP.

  1. Install the USB drivers (please refer to Installing the USB Drivers on AirLink RV50X Software Configuration Guide (pages 133–134)).
  2. In ACEmanager, go to LAN > USB and select USB Serial (USB port acts as a virtual serial port).
  3. Click Apply, then Reboot the device.

Please refer to the section USB on AirLink RV50X Software Configuration Guide (pages 132-134).

Thanks,
