Network Connectivity Issues After Receiving SMS

I am utilizing Inductive Automations Ignition (IA) platform in conjunction with a Sierra Wireless RV50X Cellular Modem to send out Alarm Messages. I followed IA’s forum (link below) on how to set up the sierra wireless modem. Upon completion of set up, I had a network connection (US Cellular) and was able to send out alarms via SMS to my phone no problem. IA has a feature for acknowledging alarms through SMS and when I tried to acknowledge an Alarm the Network State is showing “Network Link Down”. The modem now stays in this state permanently.

I tried factory resetting the device and following the steps again to set it up to no avail.

I contacted US Cellular and they stated they are still seeing that sim card is active and they are seeing traffic on the sim card.

I tried attached a txt file of the logs but new users can attach files. Any help would be appreciated.

Hi @aaron.phillips,

Welcome to our community!

Could you please take a look at the below questions and share your answers?

  1. Which are the ALEOS and the Radio Module firmware that your RV50X uses?
  2. Please try inserting a SIM that works well into the RV50X and check if the same issue occurs.
  3. Please try inserting a SIM (US Cellular) into another RV50X and check if the same issue occurs.
  4. Please send me the full log, template file, and a screenshot of ACEmanager (Status > Cellular) via Message if you are unable to attach the file.

Thanks,

@jerdung, thank you for your reply, please see my responses below.

  • Which are the ALEOS and the Radio Module firmware that your RV50X uses?
    I am using ALEOS 4.17.1.006 and MC7455_02.33.03.00_GENERIC_002.072_001
  • Please try inserting a SIM that works well into the RV50X and check if the same issue occurs.
The SIM Card is fine, this was concluded through testing, please see next question.
  • Please try inserting a SIM (US Cellular) into another RV50X and check if the same issue occurs.
I did this, the new sierra wireless had network connection with fair signal, but once I sent an sms back
to the device the network connection went down.
  • Please send me the full log, template file, and a screenshot of ACEmanager (Status > Cellular) via Message if you are unable to attach the file.
Please see attached, I was able to get the screenshot and log file, but when I downloaded a template from the Airlink Interface and tried to upload it here, it does not like the file type (xml).

Hi @aaron.phillips,

Could you please take a look at the below concern and share your answers?

1.With the log file you provided, I can’t clearly notice the log entry showing that the RV50X has connected to the network; I only observe ‘Network Link Down’. Additionally, you mentioned that RV50X
is running ALEOS 4.17.1.006 and radio module firmware MC7455_02.33.03.00_GENERIC_002.072_001, however, I observed in the log file that RV50X is running ALEOS Version 4.9.3 and module MC7455 Radio FW Vers: SWI9X30C_02.24.03.00 r6978 CARMD-EV-FRMWR2 2017/03/02 13:36:45. Please kindly recheck.

2.Please update to the latest ALEOS version and radio module firmware based on the following link: https://source.sierrawireless.com/resources/airlink/software_downloads/rv50/rv50x-firmware-list/
Warning: Upgrading from ALEOS 4.15.x and earlier releases to 4.17.1 is not directly supported. AirLink RV50X routers must be upgraded to ALEOS 4.16.0 (see RV50 Firmware List 4.16.0) before upgrading to ALEOS 4.17.1. Link for ALEOS version 4.16.0: https://source.sierrawireless.com/resources/airlink/software_downloads/rv50/rv50-firmware-list-4,-d-,16,-d-,0/#sthash.hbx36zHf.dpbs

After successfully updating, RV50X has connected to network. Please share the log file and template file with me.

***Here are the instructions for obtaining the log file and template file:
3. The configuration template file can be found in ACEmanager → Template. Provide any desired name for the Template Name, and then press Download to retrieve the template file.
4. Obtain the log file:
a. Go to AceManager > Admin > Log > Configure Logging.

Set all log levels to DEFAULT (NOTICE).
Set Linux Syslog to DISPLAY.
Then select Apply.
b. Reboot the gateway.
Perform the SMS message receiving process on the RV50X.
c. Go to Admin → View log → Download Logs.

***You can upload log file and template file to Google Drive, then share the link with me.

Thanks,
