The name “Basic” API (as distinct to ADL) is unfortunate, as it suggests that this is the one that beginners should use. 
At least two users have admitted to being caught out by this:

wavecom.com/modules/movie/sc … ight=basic
The documentation also seems to be somewhat inconsistent in using both “Basic” and “Standard” to refer to the non-ADL API.
