Hi guys!
I have bought 4pcs of HL8548-G module from China market
All are ok, I can upgrade the module to new firmware (5.5.24.2), can use all function
But when I want to change the IMEI to our registered IMEI serial , it doesn’t work
Below is the at command flow: at+wimei? +WIMEI: 004999010640000 OK
AT+KSREP=1 OK +SIM: 0 +KSUP: 2
at+wimei=354610060035829 ERROR
at+wimei? +WIMEI: 004999010640000 OK
at+wimei=354610060035829 ERROR
at+wimei=35461006003582 ERROR
at+wimei? +WIMEI: 004999010640000
They all have a common IMEI 004999010640000, when do a searching on google, I found out that there is a lot of phone have this imei. I read out the AT command of the HL series and know that the module’s IMEI can be changed once. Did the seller have changed them?
Any thing can help pls let me know in this topic
With regards writing an IMEI to the unit, if you have ordered a unit from Sierra Wireless with the default IMEI number of 012345678901237 then you are able to write a new IMEI number to the device once. If the unit has an IMEI number that is not the default then one of three things could have happened.
It was originally ordered with a default IMEI number and this has since been overwritten meaning you cannot write a new one.
It was ordered with a Sierra IMEI number, meaning that you cannot write it anyway, but given the devices you have bought all have the same number this is unlikely.
They are counterfeit and have the same number to hide this fact which again is unlikely because they power up and work.
If you are using one of our official channels then you will be able to trace the units and what they were originally ordered as using the serial number (at+kgsn=3).
Hi Matt
Thanks for your reply
I have checked again, and below is the at command flow
+SIM: 1
+KSUP: 0
AT+CREG?
+CREG: 0,0
OK
AT+KGSN=3
+KGSN: HD438200431810
OK
AT+KGSN=0
+KGSN: 004999010640000
OK
ATI3
BHL85xx.5.5.3.0.201408012222.x6250_1
OK
the serial number is ok (the same as the marking) but the IMEI is always 004999010640000 for all modules
The module cannot be registered to a network, i think that is because of the fake imei and the operator has refused the module’s registration
Is there any way to change the IMEI number?
I have try to upgrade the firmware to 5.5.24 but when I turn on the module, it returns the KSUP : 4 (means the module has a unknown error)
Do you have any suggestion for me with this case?
KSUP:4 is an unrecoverable error so I would suggest the unit is properly broken, you can try upgrading it to the latest greatest 5.5.25.0 at the link below but given the error I suspect this will not recover the unit.
No, the IMEI is what it is, the firmware will not allow it to be changed.
What could cause the KSUP: 4 message I have no idea but it is obviously not good, I suspect the unit has been messed around with, if you had bought it from a distributor we would have been able to track it with the serial number HD438200431810 but even that looks suspect so it may well be a counterfeit device (not that I am aware we have ever seen any).
Yes, if a SIM card is inserted then it will obviously go off and do other things, if not it won’t, the ‘other things’ bit is obviously causing the KSUP: 4.
