GPRS Setup, Non ASCII characters Received

Hi,

The FASTTRAC Suppreme modem is working, voice call setup OK, SMS service OK.

I still have a problem in configuration of the GPRS connection.

I have a SIM card with the data service from Belgian Telecom operator BASE
APN : gprs.base.be
Userid : base
Passwod : base

The GPRS access is working when the SIM card is placed in in GSM with
WAP facilities.

Following RS232 logs are taken with Hyperterminal connected to FASTTRAC Modem

NO CARRIER

In the context command i enter the APN name “gprs.base.be” provided by ISP provider
BASE.

To setup the Internet Access Point i need also to enter the Userid/Passw combination
“base/base”.

After the connection towards th ISP is done, i need also to specify the destinaton
IP-Address an the PORT number of the server where i want to send data via the
GPRS modem.

I can not find the AT command to enter this data, Userid/Passw combination and Destination IP-Address.

Searching on the web, i found that for IP releated commands you need to enter
the AT# commands. But i can not find any reference to this commands in the Fasttrac
user manuals.

After entering the connect AT command “atd99**1#”. I get some non ASCII characters back
from Fasttrac followed by “No CARRIER” after ±10s.

Is it possible to get assistance to setup the GPRS connection with FASTTRAC suppreme
modem.

What you’re seeing there is PPP data - so you do now have a PPP connection!

Of course, you now need something connected to the modem that understands PPP, and can respond in PPP - clearly, you can’t do that manually at a terminal!

IF you want to use the internal TCP/IP stack within the modem, you will have to install WIPSoft into the modem.

You should speak to your Distributor about this.

Hi, dagnolof

I’m a new in GPRS and I have also same problem as you met.
Have you fixed the problem? I hope you did, so you can give some advices.
thanks.

It isn’t a “problem” - it is perfectly normal and correct behaviour!
