EM9293 using M.2 - USB adapter on Ubuntu

Hello all,

I recently purchased an EM9293 module along with a M.2 to USB 3 adapter. Here it is: M.2 NGFF 4G/5G Module to USB 3.0 Adapter M2 Wifi Card Converter Riser Board4105 | eBay

I compiled the MBPL drivers following the readme file.

So far, I cannot see any indication that the module has been detected or how to even get to use it (documentation seems to be lacking on this front).

I am using Ubuntu 22.04.

Has anyone manage to get this module to work on a similar setup.

It doesn’t have necessarily to be EM9293. Any guidance related to EM9291 would be helpful too.

Thank you in advance.

Do you see anything in dmesg when connecting the module to Linux PC?
BTW, does it work in Windows PC?

You might also need to see this thread on the pin 20 and pin 22:

Thank you for the prompt response.

Putting that aside, I am not sure your response is helpful, as I came across similar responses on the forum before: pin 20, etc.

The M.2 board does not have any thing (pin or other) that I could modify.

FYI, dmesg doesn’t show that the module has been detected (this is also an issue to do with the lack of documentation: what are we meant to see if the module indeed works?). The module is also not detected on Windows.

Kind regards.

didn’t here show the socket?

Thank you again for your prompt response. I really appreciate it.

The adapter I purchased is for 5G modules, and from the reviews it seems that it works with most other brands.

Apart from that, I am not sure what the diagram above shows. I can’t see any pins or pin numbers to compare against the adapter I have.

Kind regards.

then maybe the pin 20 and pin 22 in this adaptor do not fit the requirement of EM9293

I am not sure how to debug further if you are not going to measure the pin voltage of pin 20 and pin 22.

Good luck!

It’s not clear to me if: a) EM9293 needs to have 1.6V through pins 20 and 22, b) EM9293 needs to have 3.3V through pins 28 and 22.

If you read your post above, you’ll realise that you didn’t answer my question. I would appreciate if you could provide a more clear answer on what the adapter should have, assuming the issue is with the adapter.

Thank you in advance.

you can put both pin 20 and pin 22 to 1.8V

pin 20 → high (1.8V)
pin 22 → high (1.8V)

I am not sure how to do that.

maybe you take a multimeter to measure the voltage of pin 20 and pin 22 first

Would the Sierra DevKit board be a good alternative: https://source.sierrawireless.com/resources/airprime/development_kits/rc71xx-rc76xx-wp76xx-development-kit-guide/#sthash.FtHxslq9.dpbs

Should be this one

The link you provided takes me to the guideline document, but I’m looking for the Development Kit itself.

Not sure what you want actually
Didn’t it show the picture and part number?

Yes, it did, but the kit seems to be suitable for EM91x series, whereas I have an EM9293.

Didn’t the title says it is also for em929x?

The title of the webpage, yes. But while reading the PDF document, it says that the kit is for EM91x. Do you mean that this board will work for my EM9293 instead of the adapter I have now?

Yes, it works for my em9291

Okay, thank you! Last questions, is the Dev kit the same as this one:
