USB to Serial Adaptor

Hi All,

In need of help. I have a laptop which i want to use with my Wavecom Fastrack modem. My laptop does not have a serial port, so I was wanting to know a few things.

  1. Can I use a usb to serial adaptor?
  2. Where can i get a 15pin male to usb adaptor?
  3. How trustworthy is this method?

Thanks

Yes!

It is extremely unlikely that you will find one of these, since this use of the high-density 15-pin connector is unique to the Wavecom Fastrack. :frowning:

Instead, use the standard Wavecom cable to adapt the 15-Way high-density connector to a standard 9-way connector - then connect this to any normal USB-to-9-pin-RS232 adaptor.

Or, if you don’t have the standard Wavecom cable, the pinouts of all the Fastrack connectors are given in the Manual - so you can make your own!

I’ve never had any problems with it, but some people do seem to struggle; eg, see wavecom.com/modules/movie/sc … -to-serial
