I am using a Raven-X to communicate to multiple cell modems to communicate with devices using serial MODBUS. I am attempting to upgrade that modem to a RV50. I have matched settings and even tried to create and apply a template from the old to the new. The modem appears to send the MODBUS message and the field devices reply but it is not being read or utilized by the host device. Additionally, I have changed the destination address in the remote units to match the new IP.
Suggestions as to what could be wrong and what to change or try would be appreciated.
Please find the enclosed file as an example to configure serial TCP PAD. Generally speaking, PAD performs the same functionality as Modbus RTU. Serial PAD.pptx (378.5 KB)
Thank you for the assistance. I tried the settings in the slides to no avail. At one point, during troubleshooting it appeared that the data was going out and coming back to the modem but not being accepted by the PLC. All the settings seem to match the existing 3G modem but something in the message is malformed.
None enabled during testing. I can swap to the 3G and it works fine.
I have tried to apply a template from the 3G to the 4G and that won’t work either. I think there may be something hardcoded in the firmware that is blocking the responses.
Sierra used to have great support but now it’s non-existant. I just order another 58 modems. They should have something better than to have me call CDW-G. What do they know?
Please reach out to your Sierra Wireless or distributor from whom you obtained the modem or submit “Contact Us” on https://www.sierrawireless.com/support/ for support in this case.
