Port number in PDU mode

Hello,

I would like to know how can I include the destination port number within a PDU SMS and if this is possible with the Sierra Wireless FXT modem.

Thank you in advance.

Vicebur,

SMS is not IP based traffic so does not have a port number, the only numbers that are important are the service centre (generally retreived from the SIM automatically or can be included in the PDU if required) and the destination address (contained in the PDU as part of it composition).

Matt

Matt,

I don’t mean TCP/IP ports. I mean application port numbers that are used to deliver a SMS to a particular application (J2ME) on a mobile phone.

Thanks again.

Vicebur,

That would be down to application interpretation of the payload of the SMS, there isn’t a specific field that needs to be set within the PDU header for this. Not sure if it is spec’ed in a 3GPP spec. UDHI is the flag that needs to be set in the PDU to indicate that there is header information in the payload that needs to be examined, this is generally only used for concatenated (longer than 160 character/140 byte) SMS’s.

Matt
