FX30 - cloning the filesystem

Hi,

I would like to create a binary image of the root FS in order to easily clone and restore devices to a given state. What is the recommended way to achieve this?
I would expect swiflash would have a “read to cwe” option but it does not seem to have one…

Hi michaelpercepto,
To backup/restore FX30, you can use these ways:

• From developer PC ( the PC that you develop legato application for FX30), add all application links to file .sdef. And build new system with mksys, after that use update tool to install .update file to device. You can backup this system and apply to device when you need. ( Furthermore, you can use systocwe command https://docs.legato.io/latest/toolsHost_systocwe.html to create legato.cwe from system.update file)
• The second way, You can use dd command to clone device’s partitions. All application/ config trees… are stored in USER1/MTD4 partition for WP85 chipset and userapp/MTD16 for WP76 chipset. Please refer https://source.sierrawireless.com/resources/airprime/application_notes_and_code_samples/airprime_wpflashguide/#sthash.C8sgFE9c.dpbs. And use swiflash tool to restore device to factory configuration (ex: swiflash -m fx30_wp85 -r) and then copy these data to the device that you want.
