EM7565 Auto APN

Dear all,

When leaving blank the APN setting in a EM7565, the module will use the Auto APN. Is there a list of carriers where the module can automatically get the APN config?

Thanks!

Hi @pfrancisco,

Which network provider’s SIM are you using? What firmware is EM7565 currently running?
Please provide me with the output:

ATI9
AT!IMPREF?
AT!IMAGE?
AT+CGDCONT?

For the EM7565, there will be corresponding firmware packages for each carrier. If you are using a SIM from a network provider that does not have firmware specifically for that network provider, please use GENERIC firmware instead.

Thanks,

Hi @jerdung

Output of asked commands. No SIM is inserted, but what’s beeing asked is if there’s a list of which APNs are ‘known’ per carrier, so that Auto APN works.
In alternative, what are the requirements from the carrier side to make Auto APN work?

I added AT+COPS=? to provide a list of visible carriers - mind you no SIM inserted.

Hi @jerdung,

Did you had the opportunity to look at the output that @damendoeira sent? Can you provide us with the list of carriers that are supported and requires no APN configuration? Also can you please detail how this Auto APN feature works?

Thanks in advance,
Rui Branco

Hi @pfrancisco, @damendoeira and @rfbranco,

In fact, there is no Auto APN feature. Sierra simply provides carrier firmware that has configurations for the SIM cards of the corresponding carriers.

Therefore, when you insert a SIM card from a carrier into a device running the firmware of that carrier, the module will automatically load the APN configuration.

And only the following carrier firmware is specifically listed on the source page, please refer to: https://source.sierrawireless.com/resources/airprime/minicard/75xx/em_mc75xx-approved-fw-packages/#sthash.ROO5QGaH.dpbs

Thanks,

Hi jerdung,

Thanks for your reply. The scenario is a little more complicated because we have not one but more that 100 sites where we will use these modems spread around the globe so what we were hoping was to have a single firmware version that could be use in all of them (or a version that supports most of the carriers). We were hoping that, like the android (https://android.googlesource.com/device/sample/+/main/etc/apns-full-conf.xml) Sierra could maintain a list of APNs that allow internet access set directly in the firmware.

Thanks,
Rui Branco

Hi @rfbranco,

You can load all carrier firmware at the link I mentioned above into the module and then insert the SIM card.
The module recognizes the SIM card of the carrier, it will load the corresponding carrier firmware of that SIM card and automatically get the APN configuration.
In case there is no specific firmware for a particular carrier, use the GENERIC firmware and you will need to manually set the APN.

Thanks,
