Does anyone know what antennas are approved for Japan (MIC) for the HL7800. The Certificates don’t indicate a specific antenna or gain. In my past experience for WiFi and BT modules, Japan required specific antenna and gains for approval. Is it different for cellular modules?

Ideally we would like to use our custom antenna, we had approved with the FCC.
It is a stamped metal antenna Peak gain of 1.3dBi in the 696-875MHz band and 2.6dBi in 1710-2500MHz band.
if this is custom antenna, of course it would be in the antenna list for certification.
Have you checked with your test lab for the Japan certification to see whether it is OK for your certification on product level?
BTW, I would suggest you to contact distributor to get better support.
That is my issue Sierra Wireless’s documentation and Japanese approval doesn’t list what antenna has been approved. Doesn’t specify type or gain, so it cannot be determined what antennas are available and can be leverage or used in Japan?

Who is the distributor you are referring to? Sierra Wireless did the Japanese certification. The Japanese regulatory body won’t give me any details and said I need to contact Sierra Wireless. My customer is open to switching to a antenna Sierra Wireless has approved, but they aren’t listed in any of the documentation or Japanese certificates that are available for download on Sierra’s website.
So my question is what antenna(s) did Sierra Wireless use when they obtained the certification for Japan?

I guess you should get them from distributor, right?
I believe we buy from Sierra Wireless, and even if we don’t the distributor is not in control of your certifications.
Your documentation clearly states you have Japanese approval and module is labeled with that information.
So what antennas were used when you did the testing and approval?
if you buy from sierra, there should be a FAE engineer to handle such request
