Ah, right. That makes sense. And should be the default for MBIM, IMHO. DHCP support is not mandatory, and there are many MBIM devices without.
There is no luci protocol for MBIM (yet?) so you wonāt see anything in the web interface. But that wonāt matter, it can connect just as fine.
Best way to check what ports are available is to boot your router, then connect your modem. Then use dmesg to check what new device has been found. There should be something like ā⦠ttyUSBxā 2 or 3 times. 3 times if GPS is enabled, 2 otherwise.
So if I boot with the modem connected, I will never get any ttyUSBx at all? ā¦cause I have yet to see it. Iām thinking I should see a ttyUSBx in /dev if Iāve done everything as instructed.
One more thingā¦and maybe this is my problemā¦maybe not . I havenāt put my sim card in yet. I wanted to make sure I had everything else working before I removed it from my other router and swapped devices on my account. The kids canāt live without their Internet for very long! But I would think there should still be a ttyUSBx even without a sim card.
Iām super appreciative for all the help. I never would have been able to get this far on my own!
Of course you will get ttyUSB also with attached device on boot. It is just for debugging now.
But I have yet to get that so I wonder if Iām doing something wrong. I havenāt gotten āattached deviceā yet in dmesg. Maybe there are USB packages I didnāt get installed?
Post your output, nobody can help you otherwise.
Boot your device.
Attach the modem
Post dmesg output.
I was going to do that yesterday but ran out of time. Iām out of town today but I will post my output tomorrow when I get home. Thanks for your help! Happy Thanksgiving.
You have the exact same thing as me. Put the mc7455 into mbim mode and just flash the v9 firmware in the link I provided for the linksys and do the uci commands and your done. You probably wonāt even need to swap the mbim. I didnāt and the one in the firmware worked just fine. Those firmwares have it already in it. It took me literally 4 min to do it. After that you have internet conection. Then you will be able to ssh into the router and you can use screen to get to your mc7455 and add bands and switch bands and everything else.
I was initially trying to use the latest stable release of Chaos Calmer. Maybe I didnāt have all the packages loaded or something. When I loaded the v9 software as instructed above, I immediately got a ttyUSB0 and ttyUSB1. However, I am at a standstill now because I just learned the sim card in my Netgear 6100D is not compatible with the Sierra Wireless AirPrime. None of my local Sprint stores carries one so I had to order from customer support. Now I waitā¦
Why should they be incompatible? Have you tried it?
I canāt try it until Sprint swaps my devices. They will need to associate my sim card with the IMEI of the Airprime before I can access internet, right? I donāt believe you can just swap the sim and have it work. Maybe Iām wrong, but before when I had a second Netgear 6100D I was testing, I had to call customer service and swap devices each time I wanted to test one.
Youre making this much more complicated than it needs to be. Just use the generic firmware on the mc7455. Do not use the sprint firmware. It should be on generic if you didnāt switch to sprint. And you can swap the sprint sim into the airprime with no problem. If itās a different size sim just get the sim adapters. I guess if you want you can go through the hassle of swapping devices with sprint. If you go that route you will probably need to use the sprint firmware instead. That is if sprint will provision the mc7455. They wouldnāt for me as I have an unlimited plan so I hide it and use generic firmware.
I have not changed the firmware on the MC7455ā¦it is still the generic. If it will still work without swapping devices that would be great. How does Sprint associate my sim with the new IMEI on the AirPrime? I have the unlimited plan also. I did put my sim into the AirPrime and it didnāt work. I followed every step of your directions and everything seemed to work up until actually getting connected to the internet. Thatās why I thought I needed to swap devices. When I put my sim into the wwan to usb adapter and power on the router, nothing happens. It never gives me an internet connection. Is there a step in the gui that Iām missing to connect to the internet? That would be awesome if I could get this connected today.
Thanks for all your help!
They donāt do it on your device but on their network.
Without seeing a log I would just be guessing. But did you add the apn to the mc7455? Did you hit reboot from within luci after you plugged everything in? Have you ran at!gstatus? To see if you have a signal? Are you locked into a band that you know you can get? There are so many variables. I need to see a log and what your at!gstatus? is.
Plug it into your computer and use the skylight drivers and see if it works there. That would eliminate some stuff.
It looks like it connected, but I never get an internet connection on my pc. How do I know if Sprint is issuing me an IP?

Itās up and running fine. We need to see at!gstatus? Just ssh into your router then type āscreen /dev/ttyUSBxā without quotes and x=1 or 2. Then āat!gstatus?ā Without quotes.

Ok sorry. I overlooked the links. Your close. Try using the other mbim.sh. If that doesnāt work try v8 with the mbim.sh.
When connecting the USB adapter to my PC and using the Skylight drivers, it worked immediately. I was able to get on the internet through MC7455.
Not sure why Iām not quite getting there on the Linksys, though. I think I tried changing the mbim.sh but Iāll try again. It should work with the v9 software is thatās what youāre using and we have the exact same setup. Are there any versions of the Rooter software that work with the Linksys WRT1900ACS?
