EM7565 wrong USBCOMP Command sent - did i brick it?

Hello guys,

i have just signed up because of the following problem.

I configured some EM7455 modules to use MBIM in windows10 with the following commands.

  1. AT!ENTERCND=“A710”
  2. AT!USBCOMP=1,1,100D
  3. AT!RESET

Unfortunately i have sent the same command to one EM7565 Module.
The result is my windows pc does no more recognize the module correct.
It says no driver found… i have tried the USBCOMP parameter of the driver installer but it seems also not to work.

When using linux i still get the device listed in lsusb and i do get the nemea and the diagnostic port but i cannot find a port to send AT commands. (/dev/ttyUSB2 is missing)
I have tried this solution but it did not work. It seems like another type of issue.

Is there any solution i can try by myself or did i brick the module

Any help is very appreciated.
Thanks in advance and best regards, Alex

User @westrem had the same issue, and solved it using the hint here: https://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum-replies.cfm?r=55565685#r55565685

Read my comments there and compare with your lsusb output. Or post it here if you want me to take a look.

IIUC the main difference between the modes is that the MBIM function is using interfaces 0 and 1 and the serial functions just follow on. The default serial driver (qcserial) is not prepared for that. But the option driver is flexible enough to be used for a “rescue”

Thank you so much for your fast response and the hint to your solution.
It worked exactly like described in the post for me as well.

  • modprobe option
  • echo 1199 9091 > /sys/bus/usb-serial/drivers/option1/new_id
  • and then connect to /dev/ttyUSB0

You are awesome!!!
Best regards, Alex

I have the same issue, but the hint link do not exist.
Could you upload it again? Or have another Windows, firmware update solution for it.
Thanks in advance and best regards, Ryan

Oh, I hate it when that happens. Links should be forever.

Anyway, I believe there wasn’t much more to it than what @ahp posted. The original post is here: https://whrl.pl/Re4XVd

Don’t know howto do that in Windows. Sorry. Maybe the Windows driver setup is able to do it? Possibly with some command line option. Or you could temporarily connect the modem to Linux system, if that is possible. Any somewhat modern Linux with the option driver would do. Like a Raspberry or similar. Or maybe boot a Live Linux distro from a USB stick if the modem is mounted internally in a system which can boot from an external USB device.

Thank you very much. I try to key-in (at!usbcomp=1,1,100D) through Cent OS terminal. it can repair my LTE AT command on win10.

Wow. This just happened to me. When I use minicom it won’t connect to Dev/ttyUSB0. I can’t believe I typed that in wrong.

How do you use modprobe to fix it? I know this is an old thread, but any guidance would be greatly appreciated.

what did you see in dmesg when you connect the USB cable to the linux PC?
What did you see in device manager in Windows when you connect the USB cable to the Windows PC?

On a windows computer I see a yellow flag on the EM7565 device and an error code 28.

On a linux pc, I see alot, I wish I knew what any of this means. Any assistance would be really appreciated.

Thank you for your time…

Very Respectfully,

Nick

I don’t see the EM7565 PID VID in dmesg…
Did you connect the USB to it?

It is connected. I’m using it on a windows 11 computer with Ubuntu installed in VM. It shows under device manager … Think I need to connect it to a standalone Linux machine ?

but i cannot see any message related in your dmesg…

Does this picture help? It’s connected to a raspberry pie 4. It shows the em7565. I just have no idea how to fix it. Thank you for your help.

I cannot see clearly, but have you installed the MBPL USB driver?

https://source.sierrawireless.com/resources/airprime/software/mbpl/mbpl-software-latest/#sthash.wnMqa62N.dpbs

Honestly no I havent. I’m reading tutorials on how to install it on Ubuntu on the Pi.

I installed the drivers in windows, but honestly I’m a noob with Linux. I’m reading tutorials now. I’ll let you know once it’s installed. Thank you for the direction.
