At Sierra Wireless, we believe that M2M growth is conditioned by the ability to develop custom applications faster and more reliably. More specifically, we identified the Lua programming language as the best compromise for such development frameworks: powerful, frugal, embeddable, tightly integrated with C, easily learned. We also love the libraries available under liberal licenses, and Lua’s ability to handle multi-tasking without relying on OS-level threads or processes.
We’ve exposed our point of view in a recently published article on Electronic Design magazine, to be followed by more specific considerations about embedded and M2M development frameworks design
