Orange UK: chunked Transfer-Encoding forbidden

O2 and Vodafone are fine, but an HTTP POST from WIP over Orange gets an HTTP 411 “Length Required” error, with an HTML page saying:

Length Required
A request of the requested method POST requires a valid Content-length.
chunked Transfer-Encoding forbidden:
Apache/1.3.37 Server at bdp-gif-cli Port 80

Google shows plenty of stuff about this as an Apache bug, but this is happening within the Orange network - so how can one get around it?

I’m using the “orangeinternet” APN - might it be different on other Orange APNs?
If so, which one(s)?

Anyone know any other “tricks” to get HTTP POSTs over Orange in the UK?
