Upgrading existing Q2687 2g module to Q2698 3g module

We have a base station which utilises the Q2687 2G module to send SMS during an alarm situation. The base station has a microcontroller which drives the Q2687 via RS232 with AT commands.
Being the same footprint, the Q2687 module can be replaced by the Q2698, is this correct?
However, the current Q2687 has some customised AT commands. Unfortunately, we can’t change the Microcontroller software.
Are the customised AT command able to be transferred to the Q2698 or is there a way of reverse engineer and edit these commands to suit Q2698 ?

I have monitored the AT messages from the RS232 communication port. Will post it out if any help.

Please help. Thanks. We have 200 over base station to upgrade.

Hi,

Q2698 was EOL’ed a long time ago and there are not longer any more devices to buy.

You might want to consider using the Q26 carrier board which allows you to place a HL module into it. The commands are slightly different but it would provide you with a hardware solution.

You will need to contact one of our distributors to get hold of one.

Thanks, Will follow up with the distributor here in Australia.

Hi Matt,

The Q26 board is hard to get, will opt for the Mini PCIe where I could plug a HL or MC series to it and wire with some links to the existing board. Only needed SMS function for my base station.
I am new to the these modules, does it support customised AT commands?
for example:
The base are returning these messages below:
.+GSMINFO:
.NETWORK REGISTRATION STATE: SEARCHING FOR NETWORK

.+STAPPLI: 0

Your help is much appreciated, thanks.

When you say ‘customised AT commands’ do you mean ‘can I write an application with my own AT commands to output the information I want’? Short answer is no, the command set is defined and set in firmware.

You can get most of the information you have quoted below through these commands on the HL and MC cards although they are different sets. The MC is far more restrictive as it is designed primarily to work with the QMI interface and a Linux host.

Thanks Matt. Fully understand now.
